Bangkok among cheapest for hotels

Bangkok is sixth among the world's major cities for having the most affordable hotel prices - with New York the most expensive place to stay, according to a survey.

The Thai capital was ranked sixth in terms of cheapest higher-star accommodation for tourists or visitors, the GoEuro Accommodation Price Index reported.

The least expensive city was Tirana in Albania while visitors and tourists had to pay the most in New York, it added.

The index was compiled from a survey of over 60,000 hotels from one to five stars, hostels and rented lodging called Airbnb in 150 cities across the world. Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore were the countries in Southeast Asia included in the survey.

The price index was averaged from the charge during the high and low season periods of the surveyed countries.

The average accommodate price index in Bangkok was US$39 (1,287 baht) a night compared with $246 in New York, $94 in Singapore and $43 in Kuala Lumpur. The Albanian city's average price was $32.

Bangkok was not among top cities on the cheapest price charged by five-star hotels but the city was a good deal for cheaper hotels and hostels in the survey, making it the 11th ranked on price for hotels from one to four stars and 20th in the price for hostels.
