Phuket's Full Metal Dojo tapped for June 7

MMA: Full Metal Dojo, the first professional MMA promotion in Phuket, will host their first show on June 7 at Seduction Disco in Patong.

With the amount of world-class fighters that train out of Phuket, it was only a matter of time before a new promotion would come along to showcase the high level of talent.

Enter: Full Metal Dojo – a fight organisation that has already announced their first show on June 7 at Seduction Disco in Patong. The fight card includes over 14 mixed martial artists from around the world, many of whom have trained in Phuket.

Founder and former fighter Jon Nutt says the promotion will be geared towards a local audience with several Thai fighters on the card and commentary provided in both English and Thai languages.

“We are about to take this beautiful island and the sport of MMA to another level with our brand new professional MMA promotion. For far too long, MMA in Thailand has been geared towards an English speaking audience. We aim to break that trend, flip it on its head and bring MMA to the real Thai mass audience. Get ready to enter... the Full Metal Dojo,” Nutt said in a statement.”

In a recent interview with Live 89.5's Jason Wilder, Nutt explained how the promotion will serve as a “coming out party” for the Phuket fight scene and include rules that allow soccer kicks to the head.

“This place is like the new Sparta. Phuket is known for the beaches and the girls and the quality of life,” he said during Drive on Live, “ But we have this underbelly of some of the most hardcore fighters on the planet.”

Thai commentary will be provided by professional Thai MMA fighter Shannon “One Shin” Wiratchai and Niti Techotiasne, a Brazilia Jiu Jitsu practitioner and martial artist who runs EMAC gym in Bangkok.

Weigh-ins will take place on June 6 at Joe's Downstairs restaurant on Patong Beach. Tickets for the June 7 show are on sale. For more information, visit Facebook.com/fullmetaldojo.
